IVM studes, orgs receive awards in TCA Recognition Day 2010 PDF

 

            Two graduating DVM students and two IVM student organizations received proficiency awards during the TCA Recognition Program on April 7, 2010 at the Guilberto O. Teodoro Multipurpose Center.

 

            Engelby C. Gonzales received the Best Research and Development Paper Award for her thesis “Anthelmintic Effect of Powdered Mahogany in Native Chickens.”  Gonzales beat other students in the College during the annual search for best student thesis conducted by the Research and Development Office which was held on March 19, 2010 at R&D Conference Hall.  Dr. Lavina Gracia Manzano was her major adviser.

            Carlos Philip C. Cortes received the Outstanding Veterinary Clinician Award.  The award is given annually to the graduating clinician who gave the most exemplary performance during on-the-job trainings and other activities participated in by clinicians.

            On the other hand, the Venerable Knight/Lady Veterinarians was adjudged “Outstanding Student Organization, Fraternity/Sorority Category” while the Rodeo Club Philippines TCA Chapter won the “Outstanding Student Organization, Civic Category”.  The awards were contested by all student organizations in TCA but only the organization who showed the most number of relevant and meaningful activities per category is chosen by the awards committee.  VKLV also garnered the Best Student Organization last school year.

 
IVM reoccupies newly-renovated Vet Med Bldg and Vet Hospital
 

The transfer of equipment, furnitures, apparatuses and other materials took five days, whereas the cleaning, arrangement and organization of the new rooms took almost month. Despite the hardwork involved, the faculty and students were happy to be back to their real “home”. Construction of new student organization lounges or tambayans and rehabilitation of the gardens are currently under way.

 The blessing of the new buildings was held on July 8, 2010 with the presence of College officials.

 
New updates in IVM faculty’s graduate studies

            Dr Sinamar Estudillo already finished her degree Master of Science in Animal Husbandry (MSAH) at De La Salle Araneta University last April 2010.

            Dr Ma. Asuncion Beltran has passed the comprehensive examination in PhD Animal Science at Central Luzon State University last semester.  She is currently working on her dissertation and is expected to graduate by March 2011.  Dr Beltran is a CHED scholar.

            Dr Lordy Pagatpatan is currently on her second year in MS Veterinarty Medicine at University of the Philippines Los Banos.  She is also expected to graduate on March 2011.  She is enjoying her scholarship from Civil Service Commission Pag-asa Award.

            Dr Honeylet Nicolas is on her second year in Master of Public Health Program at the University of the Philippines Open University.

            Dr Charlie Lacayanga and Dr Elfie Cordova have also enrolled in the MS Animal Husbandry program of the De La Salle Araneta University this June 2010.           

                                   

 
IVM prepares for preliminary accreditation

In order to better serve the studentry and to help the College in its aim for institutional accreditation, the Institute of Veterinary Medicine is gearing up towards its preliminary accreditation in the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP). 

            Several meetings of the Institute’s faculty were held to plan for the said endeavor.  The faculty members’ areas of assignment are the following: Faculty-Dr Honeylet Nicolas, Curriculum and Instruction-Dr Lavina Gracia Manzano, Student Support-Dr Elfie Cordova, Research-Dr Jennifer Lucero, Extension and Community Involvement-Dr Rupert Anthony Ong, Library-Dr Annalie Paragas, Physical Plant and Facilities-Dr Ong and Dr Pepito Cortes, Laboratories-Dr Regina Villarama and Dr Cortes, Administration-Dr Charlie Lacayanga.  Dr Manzano is the Overall Accreditation Coordinator.

 
IVM faculty members attend seminars

 

            Three faculty members of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine recently attended national seminars on various areas.

            Dr. Lavina Gracia Manzano participated in the “Training Course on Livestock and Poultry Research and Development Project Implementation Techniques” at PCARRD, Los Banos, Laguna on May 17-21, 2010.  The seminar was sponsored by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD).

            Dr Sinamar Estudillo attended the seminar on “Management for Academic Managers” on June 10-11, 2010 at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.  The seminar was sponsored by the Development Center for Asia Pacific (DCAAP), Center of Excellence in Human Development.

            Dr Honeylet Nicolas joined the “2nd Concepts in Animal Welfare Workshop for Philippine Veterinary Faculties” with the theme “Animal Welfare Issues on Rabies Eradication and Wildlife Conservation.”  The seminar was held on May 20-21, 2010 at the National Meat Inspection Service Conference Room, Visayas Avenue, Diliman, Quezon Cuty and was sponsored by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).
